The Importance of Exercise

imagesThis image, although intended to be humorous, is very true. To often people use the excuse that they are too busy to exercise but what they don’t realize or are trying to ignore is that they need to. Everybody needs exercise in their lives – our bodies quickly degenerate without it. The challenge is to find types of exercise that we enjoy. Why not start with something simple like:

  • Getting off the underground/subway one stop earlier.
  • Getting off the bus one stop earlier.
  • Parking your car further away from the office.
  • Always take the stairs.
  • Take your children to the park.
  • Walk the dog.

Listen to your body and find out what exercise works best for you. If you want to challenge yourself further, as I have mentioned before, set yourself a goal by signing up for a competition or an event. Have something to work towards. Figure out what works best for you:

  • Going to the gym first thing in the morning before work (remember to have your bag packed the night before!)
  • Is there a gym near your work you could use in your lunch break. Just half an hour a day is plenty.
  • Go straight after work, don’t go home first as you are more likely not to bother going once you have been home and sat down.
  • Plan out your week, if you have something on and you know that it will effect your weekly gym routine plan around it.
  • Even if you don’t feel like going – go, it will make you feel so much better after you’ve been.

TIP: Keep a journal of how you are progressing, this will encourage you to keep going when you start to notice the difference in your health and remember ‘everything in moderation’ counts for exercise too!!!
