Who am I?

meMy name is Sally, I am 30 years old and a certified Holistic Health Counselor living in New York City.

For the past 19 months I have been writing a monthly newsletter for friends and family and with the encouragement of my wonderful husband Rob I am finally opening it up to the world through this blog.

My husband and I moved to New York nearly 3 years ago which gave me the opportunity to leave the rat race of London and really decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  Whilst living and working in London I was diagnosed with a mild case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which I put down to being stressed.  People handle stress in different ways but my body would react with the food I ate causing me to feel bloated, lethargic and pretty miserable.  When we moved to New York I was able to take time out and look after myself and those symptoms pretty much disappeared. This is how my journey started.

I’ve always had an interest in food and nutrition and thought about taking my passion further by developing it into a career. So the search began, one day I stumbled across the Institute of Integrative Nutrition website and it really grabbed my attention. I wasn’t looking to go back into full time education and I loved the approach of this school. It was more holistic rather than scientific, so I enrolled and started classes a week later. Talk about moving quickly. It was certainly one of the best decisions I have ever made. Now I want to share with you what I have learnt over the years and picked up in my day to day life.

So why the Blog?  I love everything about food; cooking it, eating it, writing and talking about it and after coming across a few food blogs I decided to start writing one myself. I thought it would be great for everyone out there to see what a health counselor eats on a daily basis.

The rule I live by when it comes to food, drinking and exercise is everything in moderation. So you will see I don’t follow a strict diet, not in the least, I eat chocolate and pizza, drink wine and beer and as you will soon learn I am a particular cheese freak… however I do try and keep the food I consume as natural as possible, trying to just use local or organic products. After all you are what you eat and my body is my temple which looks after me and in turn I want to look after it.

I love to exercise. Exercising is what I use to reconnect with myself. It’s a time for me, so whether I am running outside or taking a yoga class it’s when I can forget about everything else that is going on around me and just focus on myself.  I think it’s so important to have ‘me’ time especially in the world today and especially living in New York – the city that never sleeps.

So as you probably noticed earlier I am married. My husbands name is Rob and we married last August so still newly weds and enjoying every minute of it. Marriage is such an important thing to me and I feel very lucky to have found my soul mate. He’s such a wonderful, caring and thoughtful person who always knows how to make me smile. You will no doubt see him mentioned a lot throughout my blog I’m sure and so you can put a face to the name… here he is.

This was taken on our wedding day last year – obviously 🙂

…cutting the fabulous cake my sister Debbie made.

..and our first dance as husband and wife.

Ok, that’s enough wedding photos… I could go on all day! Makes me feel all gooey looking back at these, such a perfect day.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy writing it and I look forward to reading your comments and questions 🙂
